Acquisitions

Part of the continuing growth strategy at Lam Research is to invest in new product development through both R&D and acquisitions.  Opportunities are identified based on their potential to complement and enhance Lam’s core strengths in plasma etch and single-wafer clean.  In assessing potential acquisitions, the Company targets those that will leverage its expertise to expand product and service offerings and to reach new markets.  Lam Research will continue to pursue future opportunities that support the Company’s vision to be first in both customer trust and market share.

SEZ Group: March 2008
Acquisition of the SEZ Group provided Lam Research with access to an installed base of more than 1,200 wet wafer processing systems that use SEZ’s pioneering single-wafer spin clean technology.  This installed base provides Lam Research with an in-place infrastructure that will accelerate the Company’s development of advanced single-wafer clean solutions, including both wet and plasma-based technologies.  As a result, Lam Research is well positioned to take advantage of the transition from batch to single-wafer processing to meet the stringent wafer cleaning requirements of next-generation devices.

Bullen Semiconductor: October 2006
Formerly a division of Bullen Ultrasonics, Bullen Semiconductor is a division of Lam Research.
Bullen provides silicon growing and fabrication capabilities that help ensure continued availability of proprietary components essential to the performance of Lam’s market-leading etch chambers.  In addition to serving the semiconductor manufacturing market, Bullen supplies high-purity custom silicon components and assemblies to a broad base of high-technology markets, including semiconductor test, solar, and optical.
